An NL West showdown takes place in Los Angeles Friday night as the Dodgers (61-33) host the Arizona Diamondbacks (46-47) for the opener of a three-game series before the All-Star break. This is the third time these rivals have met this season after the Dodgers swept the Diamondbacks in three games to open the 2026 season in Los Angeles, and the two teams later split a four-game series in Arizona in early June.
The defending back-to-back World Series champion Dodgers own the best record in MLB and hold a comfortable 14.5-game lead over Arizona and San Diego in the NL West. Los Angeles is coming off a series win over Colorado and has won 12 of its last 16 games.
The Diamondbacks are one game below .500 and remain in the NL Wild Card race, sitting 5.5 games back of the final spot, but they haven’t had much success lately. Arizona is coming off a 3-1 win over San Diego after splitting that four-game series, but it has lost eight of its last 13 games and now has to face the defending champions once again.
Friday night’s series opener was originally set to feature an intriguing pitching matchup, as first-time All-Star Eduardo RodrĂguez, who is enjoying a career year with Arizona and owns a 2.25 ERA, was scheduled to pitch against two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani and his 1.79 ERA. However, Ohtani was scratched from the start earlier in the day as he continues to deal with left knee irritation, which will also keep him out of next week’s All-Star Game. Ohtani is expected to remain in the Dodgers’ lineup as the designated hitter, but the pitching change certainly alters the outlook for this matchup.

Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks Best Bet: Geraldo Perdomo Over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBIs (+105)
Geraldo Perdomo is having a somewhat down season compared to his breakout 2025 campaign, when he finished fourth in National League MVP voting. However, the switch-hitting shortstop is batting .412 over his last four games, including three multi-hit performances. He has also scored four runs and driven in two during that stretch.
While this pick originally factored in Perdomo’s career success against Ohtani, including a 1-for-3 performance against him on June 3, as well as Ohtani having given up more production than usual lately on the mound, we’re still sticking with it even though Ohtani is no longer starting Friday night. With Perdomo swinging a hot bat, his plus-money Hits+Runs+RBIs prop is still worth considering in the series opener.
